I was looking for a place to take my mom and mother-in-law for tea or brunch the Saturday before Mother’s Day. Although I have lived in the Northern Kentucky area for nearly 10 years, I didn’t know of any tea rooms in the area, so I turned to my friend Google to see if I could find one. I found one right away, Yesterday’s Café and Tea Room in Florence, KY. It is kind of hidden away in the older section of Florence on Main Street. I called and made reservations for the Mother’s Day brunch a couple of weeks in advance.
When we arrived, we were greeted warmly and shown to our table where a welcome card with our name on it awaited. There were also fresh flowers on the table in a cute, tiny vase. Since we were getting the brunch, the meal was pre-planned so we didn’t have to order but did have our choice of quiches. We were served the mother’s bouquet hot tea which was a special blend and was excellent. We also were served a glass of sparkling juice. We were first served piping hot orange pecan French toast which was delicious. We had a selection of three quiches to choose from, I chose the spinach quiche. The main course was a personal quiche, a cup of fruit, a slice of banana bread and a blueberry scone with lemon curd. It was all excellent and presented beautifully. The service was excellent as well. I will definitely be visiting Yesterday’s again for tea or lunch with friends.
The Glitz Restaurant is located in Nonesuch, Kentucky which is near Lexington. Jake and I went there with my parents as part of a day trip on a staycation (link) we were on. The Glitz is open for lunch Tuesday through Saturday, it is a three course meal for $19.95 and reservations are required. They change the menu bi-weekly so there is always something different to choose from. As soon as we were seated, we were served the spiced apple refresher which was delicious. It was served in chilled champagne glasses and the bottom was ice with a cherry frozen inside. When we were there, for the appetizer course the choices were Irish potato soup, crab or avacodo appetizers. The main entree was salmon en croute or chicken lasagna florentine, both served with a salad and The Glitz’s signature poppy seed salad dressing. For dessert we could choose from the Nonesuch kiss which is their signature dessert of jamoca ice cream, meringue, chocolate fudge and almonds. The peach melba crepes or wild berry sorbet were the other selections.
I chose the potato soup for my appetizer and it was creamy and delicious. The chicken lasagna florentine was my entree and it was excellent. It was very flavorful and hearty. The salad was also wonderful and I liked the poppy seed dressing so much, that I bought a bottle of it. The peach melba crepes dessert was also excellent. It was served with a small shortbread cookie and scoop of vanilla ice cream. The service was good for the most part but did drag a little toward the end. We had to wait a bit for our check.
The restaurant is decorated beautifully, it is really hard to describe. It is somewhat dark and the ambiance is nice. There are a lot of clear glass globes and decorative white lights on the ceiling and give it almost a fairy tale look. Overall, our visit to The Glitz was a good one and definitely something I would recommend.
My husband and I recently went to Via Vite an Italian restaurant in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio with some friends. It is located on Fountain Square in the heart of downtown. The restaurant was opened by the owners of Nicola’s, an Italian restaurant in Over-the-Rhine, Cincinnati. The chef is Cristian Pietoso. The restaurant is appointed with contemporary furnishings and decorations and is very inviting.
We had made reservations from the restaurant web site via Open Table which was very convenient. We were seated promptly and our drink orders were taken right away. I started with the arugula and pine nuts with shaved parmigiano reggiano salad which was good, but had a little too much dressing for my taste, I should have asked for it on the side. For the entree, I had the pork tenderloin saltimbocca with Tuscan-style green beans and pork jus. The pork tenderloin cooked to perfection and was complimentary to the Tuscan style green beans. The service was excellent and our glasses were kept full.
Overall, this was a wonderful dining experience and I would highly recommend checking out Via Vite the next time you are in downtown Cincinnati.
